Outstanding examples: The leading key manufacturer has always invested in sustainable growth
Monitoring its carbon footprint and optimizing its energy consumption led the company to achieving the environmental Certificate
The quality of the future and the safeguard of non-renewable resources are at the core of every company’s strategy and business model. It is more and more important to act in favour of sustainable growth in order to preserve environmental and human resources. Tomorrow depends on today’s choices.
Silca S.p.A., company of the security multinational dorma+kaba and first worldwide manufacturer of automotive solutions, keys and key cutting machines, has long put in place measures and practices in favour of sustainability.
Even though the company has a quite small carbon footprint, it has revised and monitored its overall energy consumption, reduced and optimized its use of raw materials within its manufacturing processes. The results paid off, thanks to the commitment of all employees and the support given by Stefano Zocca, COO of the Key Systems Segment and Managing Director of Silca S.p.A.
“I believe that nowadays companies cannot fully achieve a profitable business, unless they have a positive environmental and social footprint,” said Stefano Zocca. Silca has managed to obtain the Environmental Certification thanks to the commitment of all employees and to the significant investments in lean manufacturing.
Silca has attained a number of different internationally renowned certifications: the Iso 9001:2008, the IsoTS 16949:2009 and the Iso 14001:04 for the Environmental Management System. In fact, Silca has decided to embrace the path that leads to Total Recycling and has thus improved the collection and disposal of metal scrap deriving from manufacturing. Almost all nonferrous scrap is recycled, and also other raw materials are managed so that the carbon footprint is minimized.
“A true sustainable strategy implies that also non-renewable resources and future generations are taken into account while operating,” added Stefano Zocca. “The role played by companies is nowadays far more significant than in the past because it acknowledges corporate social responsibility in safeguarding the environment and inter-generational fairness. For Silca the future of its business comprises the future of the environment.”
