Where the company gains higher margins, workers cash in

Trade unions list the virtuous companies where employees’ bonuses amounted up to 2.300 euro

Challenging the economic crisis by giving more money to employees is more and more frequent in big companies of the mechanical sector in the province of Treviso.
Last spring workers and trade unions of Breton in Castello di Godego signed a multi-year deal that prizes efficiency and productive capacity of the workers, who will benefit from a yearly gross bonus of almost 2.300 euro. But Breton, specialized in marble and granite manufacturing, is not the only company awarding its employees: trade union Fiom Cgil listed all the companies that have shown positive signs despite the difficult economic environment and have highly invested in research and development.
The most promising signs come from the area around Vittorio Veneto. Silca, a company based in Vittorio Veneto and part of the Swiss multinational Kaba, has awarded a “productivity bonus” of almost 1.150 euro to its employees for the fiscal year July 2013-June 2014. Silca, specialized in engineering and manufacturing key blanks and key cutting machines, employs approximately 1.300 workers in Italy and in its overseas business units in the US, Colombia and India. The reward is the highest in the past five years and was reached thanks to a result that exceeded by far expectations, both in terms of product quality and company profitability, explained the management.
“The same positive trend has been registered in other companies of the industrial site of San Giacomo di Veglia, such as Lainox-Silko, Keyline and Irinox, which have awarded their employees rewards ranging from 800 to 1.300 euro pre-tax on a yearly basis. These bonuses benefit from a 10 per cent tax rate and represent a concrete recognition of the great work done by employees and an acknowledgement of their professionalism”, said the Treviso branch of Fiom Cgil.
